چکیده

Even though we are all exposed to various pathogens at all times, we only seldom become clinically ill. This is because we are endowed with a robust immune apparatus that is highly evolved and multi-facet with the ability to distinguish between “self” and “non-self”. On escaping and by-passing the mechanical barriers like the skin and muco ciliary clearances, as a part of the antigen non-specific immune response, the foreign organisms/antigens are phagocytosed/lysed by the phagocytes or the NK cells without any cell-to-antigen specificity. Any of the cells of the non-specific immune response, namely the, neutrophils, macrophages, dendritic cells and the NK cells can attack/destroy any antigens that are non-self. The number of organisms/ antigens that each of these cells of the non-specific immune response can destroy is rather modest. If the pathogen load is very high this then this non-specific immune response can be easily overwhelmed.

Differential protein expression in Mycobacterium tuberculosis susceptible and multidrug resistant isolates

Introduction: Infections by multidrug resistant Mycobacterium tuberculosis (MDR-TB) is a major public health challenge. Secretion of proteins by M. tuberculosis plays an important role in the pathogenesis of the bacterium. We compared the protein profiles of susceptible M. tuberculosis and MDR-TB isolates using proteomic analyses, namely two dimensional gel electrophoresis (2DE) and mass spectr...

Elevation of CD56brightCD16- Lymphocytes in MDR Pulmonary Tuberculosis

Background: Protective immune responses induced in the majority of people infected with Mycobacterium tuberculosis enable them to control TB infection. Objective: The aim of this study was to investigate CD56 and CD16 positive peripheral blood mononu-clear cells (PBMCs) and leukocyte subsets from multi-drug resistant pulmonary tuber-culosis (MDR-TB), and compare them with nonresistant (NR) TB p...

Tuberculosis incidence predicting system using time series neural network in Iran

Background: Tuberculosis (TB) is an important infectious disease with high mortality in the world. None of the countries stay safe from TB. Nowadays, different factors such as Co-morbidities, increase TB incidence. World Health Organization (WHO) last report about Iran's TB status shows rising trend of multidrug-resistant tuberculosis (MDR-TB) and HIV/TB. More than 95% illness and death of TB c...

Prevalence of Pre-Extensively Drug-Resistant Tuberculosis (Pre XDR-TB) and Extensively Drug-Resistant Tuberculosis (XDR-TB) among Pulmonary Multidrug Resistant Tuberculosis (MDR-TB) at a Tertiary Care Center in Mumbai

Background: India is a high burden country for Tuberculosis (TB). As per the World Health Organization (WHO) statistics, 24000 cases of Multi Drug Resistant (MDR) TB were diagnosed in India in 2014. MDR-TB patients consist of a heterogeneous cohort and management has its challenges. Aims and objectives: We studied the prevalence of PreExtensively Drug Resistant TB (Pre XDR-TB) and Extensively D...

Th1/Th2 Imbalance and Elevated PD-L1 in Pleural Effusion Predict the Risk of Multi-Drug Resistant Tuberculous Pleuritis

Background: Patient immune status might be indicative of the variance in bacterial genetics in drug-resistant tuberculous pleuritis and could be used for predicting the risk of multi-drug resistant tuberculous pleuritis (MDR-TB). Objective: To determine the significance of Th2/Th1 ratio and concentration of PD-L1 in the pleural effusions for prediction of MDR-T...

Pattern of Adverse Effects of Drugs Used to Treat Multi Drug Resistant Tuberculosis

During treatment of multi drug resistant tuberculosis (MDR-TB), patients suffer from many adverse effects. Severe adverse effects may lead to refusal and discontinuation of treatment. Though national tuberculosis control programs are generally well structured, they do not collect information on adverse effects of drug directly. This study had been designed to observe the pattern of adverse effe...
